Gold foiling

Metallic foil pressed into paper — the detail that catches the light.

The craft

Real shine, pressed in

Foiling presses a genuinely metallic foil onto paper with a heated die — real reflective shine that printed gold ink can never imitate. Names catch candlelight across a table; a foiled border turns an invitation into something guests turn over in their hands.

Gold is the classic, but foil comes in silver, rose gold, copper and colours — and it layers beautifully over digital print, which is how most of our favourite pieces are made.

A little deeper

What makes foil special

01

Real metal, real light

Foil is a metallic surface, not a printed colour — it reflects light as you move. It's the difference between a picture of gold and gold.

02

A foil for every palette

Gold, silver, rose gold, copper and coloured foils — matched to rings, accents or the palette of the day.

03

Made to be layered

Foil sings as an accent: names on printed place cards, a monogram over a printed invitation, a shimmer along a menu's edge.

Foil or print?

Foil is the jewellery of a suite — here's when to reach for it, and when print carries the piece.

Choose foiling when…

  • You want true metallic shine — candlelight is foil's best friend
  • A name, monogram or border is the hero of the piece
  • It's the keepsake tier: invitations, vow books, place cards
  • The design is bold lettering or clean motifs

Print might suit better when…

  • The design is multi-coloured artwork or photography
  • Detail is extremely fine — hairlines finer than foil can hold
  • Quantities are big and the budget is doing a lot
  • You want it everywhere — foil works best as the accent, not the wallpaper

Foil layers beautifully over digital printing — most of our foiled pieces are a combination of both.

What to foil

The best things to foil

Foil belongs on the pieces people hold close to the light.

Place cards

Every guest's name in real gold — the tiny detail whole tables end up talking about.

Invitations

Foiled names, borders and monograms that make the envelope worth opening slowly.

Menus

A foiled header or flourish that catches the candlelight down the length of the table.

Good to know

What foil colours do you have?

Gold, silver, rose gold, copper and coloured foils.

Will my design work in foil?

Bold lettering, monograms and clean motifs foil beautifully. Extremely fine hairlines can fill in — if your design needs adjusting, we'll show you a foil-friendly version at proof stage.

Can you combine foil with printing?

Yes — it's our favourite combination: a digitally printed base with foiled accents. Most of the foiled pieces on this page are made exactly that way.

How long does it take?

Most orders are finished within 5 working days once the proof is approved — tell us your date and we'll prioritise a wedding
